Tesla CEO Elon Musk is planning to unveil an artificial intelligence startup that would compete with OpenAI.
Musk has been building a team of engineers and researchers and has been in talks with multiple investors. He has been recruiting from other competent AI companies. It is real and they all are excited about it.
Musk has secured lots of Nvidia GPU processors. Those chips are an intrinsic part of building a large language model to compete with the GPT of OpenAI.
Musk said, “It seems like everyone is buying GPUs at this point. Twitter and Tesla are certainly buying GPUs.”
Musk was a major financial investor at OpenAI, committing $1 billion over a few years. But Musk left out of his financial and operational commitments to OpenAI at the same time OpenAI included a for-profit business segment. Microsoft shortly invested $1 billion in OpenAI after Musk’s breakout with the group and Microsoft at the start of this year also committed to a new investment of multi-billion dollars.
Musk has publicly questioned OpenAI’s approach. Last month, Musk signed an open letter asking for a six-month-long ban on any research on AI models more advanced than GPT-4 of OpenAI.
Musk has said, “AI is one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization.”
Musk’s reported AI Startup might become the latest entrant to the increasingly crowded space in AI technology.
Beyond Microsoft and Google, Amazon also recently announced that it is entering the space in Generative AI.
